Kitchen Scales/Våg

Here I have put up some pictures of scales with a few remarks concerning price, value and usefulness. There are many scales on the market and these are but a few. I used my old dead weight scale for 25 years until I finally found a digital scale that was cheap and could weigh both metric and American/British measures.

I don't really think its interesting to buy a Metric scale especially with the internet and all the recipes you can find from around the world. Also think about all the older wonderful cook books that haven't been converted to the Metric system and probably will never be. It is possible to find an inexpensive scale that will measure everything for you. A small investment in measuring spoons and cups for the American/British systems are also a very good idea.

This little scale was bought at Netto for 249 kronor. It weights grams up to 3 Kilo. Kronor for kronor it is the best buy I have seen.

You can weight anything and get the weight you want without removing the bowl in both in metric or American/British systems by pushing a button.

It also will exclude the weight of the measuring bowl automatically for you.

Proving that a good little digital scale can be bought for very little money.

Philips: At about 3-400 kronor is a good scale but a waste of money as it only measures metric. I guess they thought the design was going to be enough.

Every pastry chef I have ever met has had this type of scale. This one was manufactured by Exakta. Weighs both Metric and American/British. This one is mine and I have been using it for the past 25 years. I never bought another until I found the little cheap digital at Netto.

They are expensive, around 1500 kronor new. But can be found occasionally for sale second hand, it is a great cheap reliable alternative. Be sure that none of the parts under the base are bent as that will effect it's accuracy. Also be sure that it has both Metric and American/British measures on the front as well.

This one is for the design conscious - the Rolls Royce of scales and it should be for about 2000 kronor. Designed by Porsche for Siemans it is wall mounted and folds down to take the measuring bowl. It has most functions you would want but only measures metric. So good looking we bought one for our best friends house warming.

The delux digital treat!
