Acini di pepe is used mostly in soups and can be used a bit like couscous for cold salads. Sometimes referred to as pastina (Italian for "tiny dough"), some pasta makers distinguish pastina as smaller than acini di pepe.
Notes:
Acini di pepe is usually made when making home made pasta usually spaghetti or some other thin pasta, dried, then stored in a cool dry place. Will keep for up to 2 months.
