Aromatic: Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis), is a perennial herb in the mint family Lamiaceae, native to southern Europe and the Mediterranean region.
Season:
Fresh young leaves, Lemon Balm grows in clumps and spreads vegetatively as well as by seed and can be harvested until the end of November.
Uses in Cooking:  

Used for its lemony flavor in fruit punches or fruit soups and poached and roasted fish. Most often used as a soothing tea in modern times.

Other Uses:
Lemon Balm is also used medicinally as an herbal tea, or in extract form. It is claimed to have antibacterial, antiviral properties, and it is also used as a mild sedative or calming agent.
