Herbes de Provence

Herbes de Provence is a blend of spices whos origin is France, They are traditionally marjoram, oregano, rosemary, thyme, tarragon and sage. Lavender is often added. According to Larousse Gastronomique it is a blend of thyme, rosemary, bay leaf, basil and savory.

I unfortunately have not found a real authentic recipe for this - If you have one I would be happy to publish it and give you the credit. E-mail me please.
Uses in Cooking:

Herbes de Provence adds a beautiful flavour to roasted and grilled meats and is especially good with roasted or grilled chicken. It can be used as a base in your barbeque rubs. A big pinch can be added to vegetables or salads to add flavour and it can also be added to salad dressings but be aware that it has big flavours and in this context be used sparingly.

Possible Substitutes:
A good possible substitute is to mix your own if you have the spices in your cabinet.
How it comes:

The blend is manufactured by many companies which produce various degrees of authenticity. I would go for a good ready mix from Fauchon in Paris who export to fine stores world wide. But there are many available on the market.
