Herb: Dill (Anethum graveolens) is a short-lived annual herb. It is the sole species of the genus Anethum.
Season:
Dill doesn't really have a season when it is best to purchase it. It is available here all year. It of course can be planted here and grown successfully, harvest time from early June to late October (first frost), depending upon how you planted out the seedlings.
Uses in Cooking:  

Use in cream, sour cream, soups, bean, cucumber, dishes as well as potato salads, boiled potatoes, fish, fish sauces essential in the Nordic kitchen and is much used and appreciated in Mediterranean cooking. Dill is best when used fresh, as it loses its flavor rapidly if dried.

Light green feathery tipped herb sold as a fresh plant, cut fresh fronds, freeze dried and frozen.
Other Uses:
It is said that Dill can also be used to help cure both insomnia and bad breath. Sometimes dill is made into a tea to help cure an upset stomach.
