Abruzzo is a region in Italy and is made up of 4 provences L'Aquila, Teramo, Chieti and Pescara. The regions population is approx 1.2 million people and the 4 provences cover 10,794 km², 2/3's of this being mountainous and the remainder being the Adriadic plain which sweeps down to the Adriadic sea. The coast line of this region being 129 km.

Abruzzo has been off the beaten track of most tourists which make it very attractive for the visitor who prefers to linger and travel leiserly but over the past 10 years it is becoming more popular with Italians and other Europeans. It is famous for it's well preserved small mountain villages and mountainous terraine. The region has 21 ski areas with 368 km. of runs, all within a few hours of Rome. The most developed resort being Roccaraso.
